I made the leap to gel polish when I acquired a really nice CND UV lamp, so I tried CND Shellac, and a few other products. They would look okay, but not great and they didn't last as long as I wanted. I would spend 5-6 hours doing my nails every 10 days or so. Very tedious work. Filing off the product, making repairs, etc., and then the drying time 3 minutes per cycle (Base coat, 2-3 color coats, top coats).
Then I discovered LED light-curing products. The first one I tried was Sensationails, which I bought at THE big discount store. It wasn't bad. It greatly reduced the time needed to do my nails, but I found the soaking-off process ridiculously time-consuming, and there was a very limited selection of colors. And they would get dull quickly.
Next, I bought the Haute Polish system, also an LED system. Run, don't walk, away from this one. The gel polishes are very thin, and they peeled off every time I used them.
So, I went to Harmony's Gelish line. I used to buy them on Amazon, but it was a nice surprise to see them available locally at Sally's. Unfortunately, the ones at the store are very small in size, and therefore very pricey. I also noticed my nails would be dull after the top coat.
Finally, I tried Sally's Fingerpaints Gel Polish. They are easy to use, stay on well, and easy to remove. Of all the products I've tried, I'm most pleased with these. They require a 30 second cycle for each coat under the LED lamp, and have held up well the two times I have done them. Wish there were more colors, but they'll come, I'm sure. And the bottles are full-sized, as opposed to the tiny Gelish bottles.
For the record, I'm in my 50's, and I like lots of different colors on my nails. But even if you are more conservative, there are colors you should be content with. So far, I like this product and this kit is a good one for those who want a set to start them off.

I was never able to keep nail polish on my nails for more than 1-2 days before it was chipped and ugly looking. This product is amazing! No regrets on my purchase. The first use, it lasted about a week before I had 'wear' at the ends of my nails. This was fine with me as it was still 3 times longer than regular polish. The next time lasted about 10 days before the same 'wear' was noticeable. (And this isn't chips, this is minor 'wearing'). The third time has lasted a full 2 weeks. I'm not sure if this is due to my improved application process or maybe my nails strengthening and not being so weak at the tips and holding on to the color longer.I have had no problems with removal. I follow the directions and soak off with a lint free wipe soaked in the remover and wrap each nail with a piece of foil for 15 min and the polish slides off with very little effort. But you do have to buff the nail prior to break the seal as the directions state. Just follow the directions.
The whole process from beginning to end takes me a little over an hour. Very reasonable.
I love it. I hope they come out with more colors.
