The color matches what you see on the bottle. It does have some orange hue in the red. It is a bit translucent in outdoor light. This does not mean it's sheer. Very bright and perky color, looks great for summer.
Although true Shellac snobs would say use Shellac as a system for best results, I used it with LED lamp and it cured fine. I cured base coat for 30 secs, color coats for 60 secs each, top coat for 60 secs (as opposed to 2 mins under UV lamp).
Shellac does not require a primer and the polish bonds to nails without peeling. Removing is also easy, Shellac will soak off in 10 mins with very light scraping (if that). Compared to Sensationail (sold at drug stores), without a primer it peeled after 2 days, with a primer it took me about an hour to remove (including ~20 mins soak time) with a lot of hard scraping.

I could tell a difference the first time I used this polish from the cheap IBD brand.I bought the IBD brand to start doing my own gel polish nails-I cannot justify $30+ at the salon to have my nails painted every 2 weeks. Because there are so many components to the gel polish, I didn't want to spend $15 per bottle for the CND not knowing how to use it, or if I would truly like it. I was able to start gelling with the IBD brand for about $25. The IBD was worth the money to learn, and know that I am transformed to a gel polish girl forever!!
I was fairly happy with the IBD brand, except my red kept peeling off within days-it was thicker than the pink IBD polish I bought. Still I was fairly happy because I could paint my nails in about 45 minutes, and as soon as I finished, they were DRY! Completely DRY-no wrinkles in the morning from sleeping, no smudges, completely dry. And they stay shiny the entire time, like I just painted them!
This red polish by CND is thinner than the IBD polish and the brush is also smaller, making it easier to be more precise. My red polish lasted for almost a week this time, but I used the IBD bonder and base & top coats. I will be converting to the CND bonder and base & top coats at some point in the future, expecting better results than the IBD brand has provided.
I would definitely recommend the CND brand to anyone thinking of doing their own gel polish at home. It's worth the money.
